Will Recommends:
This week I've gone for 6 wines that I feel are suitable for the moment.
Today's headlines let us all know of Melbourne's impending lockdown for a further 6 weeks. With this in mind we thought it would be a fitting moment to support their economy and release a limited Australian themed Weekend Wine Pick!
For the whites I have selected three ear tickling wines:
Yalumba's Y-Series Riesling from Barossa Valley in South Australia. A fresh, crisp and fun aromatic white wine with classic Riesling aromas of citrus and grapefruit, produced an hour north east of Adelaide.
Philip Shaw's Dreamer Viognier from Orange, located up in the hills west of Sydney. This Viognier is lighter and crisper than your old world styles, one to discover.
Finally, localish to Melbourne, we have a Pinot Gris from the Gippsland region, located 3 hours north east of the City. Holly's Garden Pinot Gris is more reminiscent of the old world Alsatian style; Golden Delicious apple and William pear fruitiness with some ginger spice, with a minimal intervention wine making approach.
THE REDS I have selected are three very fresh, modern styled wines that will welcome you to the new, ever evolving, Australia.
First we have a Pinot Noir by Philip Shaw, the same producer as the Dreamer Viognier. An elegant wine with bright succulent fruit and a gentle savouriness to round off a more-some wine.
Next we move to McLaren Vale showcasing a wine that could be described as a Aussie play on the wines of the Northern Rhone. By a young brother duo, Duncan and Peter Lloyd, Dune was born. Their Mingsha Shan is a blend of Shiraz with a little Fiano to lift the wine. Not your traditional full bodied, dusty tannin red from this area; medium bodied with gentle tannins, balanced with refreshing acidity. Aromas of blueberries and bramble notes, along with spices, crushed leaves and herbs.
Finally, we have a Mediterranean blend from the Barossa Valley; Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah. This is a superb low intervention wine that definitely runs away from the regional stylistic 'norm'. Frederick Stevenson is an alias for Steve Crawford whom we beleve has family in Jersey, even more the reason to support the cause...
We are currently offering 15% discount off the full 'weekend wine picks' case.
