Chris Recommends:
This week I've gone for 6 wines that I've been enjoying over the last couple of weeks.
To pay homage to this stunning weather I've gone with a couple of wines from William Chase's estate in Provence that came in at the beginning of the month, as well as lovely little fresh zippy Alvarinho from Minho in Portugal.
For the red wine I've gone with three real stand out wines that all in there own way deliver fantastic value for money. 'Les Elmes' by Calmel & Jopseph is from the charming little appellation of Collioure in the Roussillon wine region of the South of France. The wine is predominately made from Grenache with a touch of Syrah and Mourvedre. Loads of dark brooding fruit on the nose and palate, luscious mouth feel and lingering finish.
Next up the Great Red from Stellenbosch. The wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux style blend. It's so refreshing to have a big style of red wine that doesn't tip the abv charts and with the 2018 Great SA red winemaker Carl has nailed it! It’s a very aromatic, elegant blend that is considerably more than the sum of its parts, with pepper spice, plum and black cherry fruit and savoury tannins.
Finally, I've gone for the 'Dehesa la Granja from Alejandro Fernandez. Alejandro is famous for his Tinto Pequera wines from Ribera Del Deuro. This wine is from his Zamora project in North Eastern Spain. The wine is 100% Tempranillo, rich and opulent with 36 months ageing in oak barrels, the wine is smooth and round with supple tannins.
