Best known in Bandol, Southern Rhône, Spain
A dark, savoury red grape that loves Mediterranean heat. Blackberry, game, leather and herbs, with firm tannins and real depth. The star grape of Bandol and a key part of Southern Rhône blends; in Spain it is called Monastrell.
Shiraz
Best known in Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale
The Australian name for Syrah, and the style is often different. Rich and ripe, with blackberry, plum, chocolate and peppery spice. Bold, generous and often oak-aged, especially from the Barossa and McLaren Vale, with cooler regions giving a more peppery style.
