The Liberator is the label of Master of Wine Richard Kelley, who lived and worked in the Cape from 1995 to 2002. Love Wine stocks an old-vine Chenin, a Chardonnay made by Johnnie Calitz at Glen Carlou, and Telegram Sam, a Rhône-style red.
More from The Liberator →Rick is the alter ego of Master of Wine, Richard Kelley. Over the past 25 years, Richard has become one of the most respected authorities on South African wine in the UK and beyond. Between 1995 and 2002, he lived and worked in the Cape, witnessing the renaissance of the post-apartheid wine industry. Throughout this fruitful period, he established a healthy rapport with the great and the good of the local wine scene, affording him access to their distinguished cellars. This is his homage to the region's Chardonnay, made by the extremely talented Johnnie Calitz in the cellars of Glen Carlou. This much-loved producer, located a few minutes from the university town of Stellenbosch and about half an hour's drive from Cape Town, is famed for its exquisite Chardonnay. So, this is a major coup for The Liberator. Expect a distinctly Burgundian experience at a fraction of the price and with a little additional sunshine in the mix.
