The grape

Chenin Blanc

Best known in Loire Valley, South Africa

A brilliant shape-shifter. Bone-dry, off-dry, sweet or sparkling, always with vivid acidity running through it. Apple, quince, honey and a waxy texture, with the best examples from the Loire and South Africa ageing gracefully for many years.

Where it's from

Swartland

South Africa

The heartland of South Africa's wine revolution. Old bush-vine Chenin Blanc, Cinsault and Syrah grown on schist and granite. The natural wine movement found its South African home here — producers like Eben Sadie and Chris Alheit have changed the global conversation about what South African wine can be.

The story behind it

Part of the 'Baby Bandito' range, this wine reflects Hawkins' commitment to natural winemaking. Grapes are hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented in a mix of stainless steel and old oak foudres, resulting in a wine that's both approachable and expressive.

If you like these, you'll love this: Loire Valley Chenin Blancs like Savennières or Vouvray Sec, or other natural white wines with a fresh, mineral profile. *This is a "Natural Wine" which may be cloudy and contain sediment*
