A bold, off-dry Riesling from one of New Zealand’s benchmark producers. This isn’t your average Riesling. Pegasus Bay’s 2015 Estate Riesling is a vibrant, expressive white that shows just how thrilling the variety can be in the right hands. Grown on stony, glacial soils in Waipara Valley, where warm days and cool nights build incredible flavour and retain zippy natural acidity, this wine is a masterclass in balance. It’s bursting with exotic fruit, underpinned by citrus and minerality, and finished with a gentle spritz and touch of off-dry sweetness. If you love powerful, food-friendly whites with energy and tension – this should be on your radar.

Gold Medal – NZ Wine Awards

Celebrated for intensity, balance and varietal purity.

Mandarin, lime and white nectarine jump out first, followed by waves of guava, lychee and passionfruit. There’s lovely weight and mouthfeel, with a lively edge from a subtle spritz (well integrated now!). A touch off-dry, but beautifully balanced by crisp acidity and a mineral streak that keeps it lifted and long.

2015 was a dream vintage in Waipara – warm and dry with low yields. The smaller crop delivered great concentration and purity.

The fruit was hand-harvested in May, gently pressed, and fermented slowly at low temperatures to preserve its vivid aromatics. A little natural CO₂ was retained to give a touch of spritz and added freshness. Minimal handling from vine to bottle to maintain varietal character and vibrancy.

The Riesling comes from Pegasus Bay’s home vineyard in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. The vines are rooted in glacial soils – mineral-rich gravels and stones left behind by an ancient ice-age glacier. These free-draining soils, combined with warm days and very cool nights, stretch out the ripening period and preserve acidity – perfect for Riesling.

This site is known for producing wines with purity, structure and intensity. And Riesling, in particular, shines here.
