Corvinone
Best known in Valpolicella, Veneto
A close cousin of Corvina in name, but a separate grape. Larger berries and a little more structure and colour. It adds body and dark cherry depth to Valpolicella and Amarone blends.
Molinara
Best known in Valpolicella, Veneto
A minor Valpolicella blending grape. Pale in colour, with fresh acidity and light, red-fruit flavours. Used in small amounts alongside Corvina and Rondinella to add brightness and lift, though fewer producers rely on it today than in the past.
Oseleta
Best known in Valpolicella, Veneto
A Valpolicella grape rediscovered by local growers. Small berries, deep colour and firm tannins. Used in small amounts to add structure, dark fruit and backbone to Valpolicella and Amarone blends, where it balances the softer charm of Corvina.
Rondinella
Best known in Valpolicella, Veneto
A Valpolicella blending grape that plays a supporting role to Corvina. It adds colour, red fruit and herbal notes. Its berries dry well without rotting, which makes it useful for Amarone and Recioto, and it is rarely bottled on its own.
