PRODUCER: At the head of Celler Loxarel, we find Josep Mitjans, the fifth generation of winegrowers and bulk winemakers. In 1985, when he was just 16 years old, he made his first 1000 bottles of sparkling wines, and he decided to change the philosophy of this century-old winery. Josep studied oenology and took on the challenge of managing the reconversion of the family vineyard business.
The winery is located in the middle of a prairie in Penedés, at 200 metres of altitude, where we can find most of their vineyards. They also cultivate plots in Pla de Manlleu, above 500 metres of altitude.
WINE MAKING: Loxarel Ancestral A Pèl is a sparkling wine made from 100% Xarello from their own vineyards. Once the harvest is carried out manually, and once it is received at the winery, it starts fermenting with wild yeasts in 1000-litre terracotta amphorae with the skins. The wine finished fermenting in the bottle. No sugars or yeasts are added.
TASTING NOTE: Slightly cloudy, yellow lemon colour, with light golden hues. Very fine and well integrated bubbles with aromas of white flowers, almond tree, quince. After a few minutes of opening glass, notes of fennel and mandarin skin develop. This is a Silky, wide and harmonious with a salty hint. White fruit like pear and the green apple.
