PRODUCER: In the late 1800’s, the majestic Long Meadow Ranch property thrived with vineyards, apple orchards, olive groves, hay and a goat milk dairy until farming fell dormant during Prohibition. Over the following years, the property became swallowed by the encroaching forest until the Halls bought the property in 1989. The Hall family carefully breathed life back into the land, nurturing it back to its glory, and then some, by cutting back the abandoned olive trees and replanting the vineyards and apple orchards as they grow today.
Located in the west or “deep end” of the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, approximately 2.5 hours north of San Francisco, LMR's Anderson Valley Estate has 69 acres planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. With the Navarro River to the southwest and its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the Estate has a natural marine layer that blankets the vineyards and creates terroir ideal for our estate-grown Burgundian varietals to mature slowly and ripen to the peak of their varietal character.
VINTAGE: This season will be remembered as a colder and slower one in Anderson Valley, producing wines with profound elegance and delicacies. Bud break started about a month later than the last 5 vintages, and at a date recognized as being more in line with the historical averages. A mild spring allowed for a nice crop set and it was followed with a “cold” summer for Northern California standard.
WINEMAKING: Joining Long Meadow Ranch from the famed Californian producer Hyde de Villane, Stephane Vivier is the winemaker in charge of LMR's Anderson Valley estate. The Anderson Valley Chardonnay spends 12 months in 22% new French oak, then three more months aging in stainless steel tank.
TATING NOTES: “The bright and pale green color is enticing. The scents are intense and exuding floral and white fruit altogether accented with delicate citrus notes. The mineral and floral qualities of the wine are confirmed on the palate with bursts of floral golden fruit and restrained richness. The flavors have excellent definition and the drinker will welcome the return of fresh citrus, jasmine, and this underlying minerality inherent to our Anderson Valley site. Bright, fresh and so precise, it will astonish now but reward for a decade.” – Stéphane Vivier, Winemaker
