PRODUCER: The Kooyong vineyard and winery, established in 1996, was acquired by the Gjergja family in 2004. Kooyong is located in Tuerong, towards the northern end of the Mornington Peninsula. The majority of the forty hectare site is planted to Pinot Noir, with a substantial area of Chardonnay and several small sections of Pinot Gris.
WINEMAKING: The grapes are gently whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques (10% new), where fermentation takes place without inoculation. After fermentation, the wine is aged on lees (without battonage) for 10 months. It is bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.
TASTING NOTES: Bright straw, pale gold colour. A vibrant nose of rockmelon, white peach, orange peel, figs, ground almonds and underlying notes of quartz minerality. The palate opens up to a delicate creaminess with layers of hazelnut, figs balanced with apple and citrus fruits.
