Jordan The Real McCoy Riesling
PRODUCER: Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines at this top wine estate since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. Together this husband and wife team is a phenomenon. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 146 hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specializing in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes.
WINE MAKING: The Riesling vineyards were harvested at between 21.6°B. – 22°B. The grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press with the free run juice being separated from the press fraction. After 2 days of settling in the tank, the clear juice was racked off its lees and inoculated with a French strain of yeast. Cold fermentation at 15°C occurred in stainless steel tanks until the perfect balance between the Residual Sugar and acidity was reached. The fermentation in this vintage was stopped at about 0˚B to retain a hint of natural residual sugar.
TASTING NOTE: The Real McCoy celebrates the legislative change regarding the naming of Riesling in South Africa. Intense lime and aromatic tropical fruit flavours, balanced by a crisp acidity, ensure complexity and a good ageing potential. Ideal with Thai curries, chili prawns, seafood or sushi.
