Argentina's signature red. Dark plum, blackberry and violets, with a soft, velvety texture that makes it very easy to like, with high-altitude Mendoza vineyards keeping it fresh. In its original home, Cahors, it makes firmer, darker and more rustic wines.

The Andes as backdrop, altitude as climate control. Mendoza produces the vast majority of Argentina's wine — Malbec above all — from vineyards that sit at 600–1,500 metres above sea level. The altitude brings freshness to what might otherwise be overwhelmingly ripe fruit. Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley are the finest sub-regions.
