The grapes

Frappato

Best known in Vittoria, Sicily

Sicily's most charming light red. Bright strawberry, cherry and floral notes, soft tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely served slightly cool, and blended with Nero d'Avola in Cerasuolo di Vittoria.

Nero d'Avola

Best known in Sicily

Sicily's leading red grape. Ripe black cherry, plum and spice, with soft tannins and good acidity to keep it lively. It comes in fresh, fruity styles for easy drinking as well as richer, oak-aged versions that will happily sit in the cellar.

Where it's from

Sicily

Italy

Italy's sleeping giant is wide awake. Nerello Mascalese from Etna's volcanic slopes produces wines of haunting elegance that have woken the wine world up. Nero d'Avola, Grillo and Catarratto add depth to a region that now makes some of Italy's most exciting bottles.
