Richard Hilton Returns, 15th of April 2017 - In Store Tasting
We are delighted to let you know Richard Hilton has confirmed his arrival this Saturday the 15th of April 2017. Richard will be hosting a tasting in store from 10.30 - 12.30 and would love to see as many of you as possible!
Production is very small as the focus continues to be quality driven in the pursuit of creating fine wines that accompany the finest of cuisine. Since 2003 the production has grown to +/- 25 tons per annum crushed at the private cellar of Welgewallen, located in the historic town of Stellenbosch (second oldest town in South Africa), where Hilton Vineyards is a tenant, owning purely the grapes, wines and barrels produced.
At Love Wine we feel seriously lucky to have Richard's wines available to us in Jersey. His production is tiny, but the quality of wine he is making is exceptional. A chance encounter in Jersey (Richard has family here on the Rock) allowed us to taste through Richards wines with him. He exudes a real contagious passion for his wine.
Richards wines are his passion and they are the definition of handcrafted quality. Here is a sneak preview of what is to come
A little about Richard
Richard Hilton Vineyards began in 2003 with it’s first vintage of Syrah made from two tons of grapes sourced from a grower on the west coast of South Africa, just outside the small hamlet of Darling.Production is very small as the focus continues to be quality driven in the pursuit of creating fine wines that accompany the finest of cuisine. Richard has made a mindful decision to focus on the varietal of Syrah due to the prevailing Mediterranean climate and high composition of decomposed granite found as a sub-strait to the complex and ancient soils of the Cape wine region, dating back to the existence of the super-continent of Gondwana some 550 million years ago.
In 2007 a second wine was added to the ‘stable’ in the form of Viognier, a grape varietal that was only first planted in the Western Cape of South Africa in the 1989. This was a natural progression in the specialisation of these two Rhone varietals which so perfectly suit the Cape’s climate.Richards wines are his passion and they are the definition of handcrafted quality.
