PRODUCER: Majorie Gallet, who grew up in one of the lush French regions of Grenoble, had a passion for winemaking right from a young age. She and her husband, Stephane, used to go to trips to Roussilon during vacations. This is where, they understood the potential of the Roussilon vines. The plots here resembled those of Grenoble and Cote-Rotie, where Majorie had grown up. Stephane and Majorie are known for producing very small quantities of wine under this label. This is the main reason their wines have excellent ageing potential. At their vineyard, the couple practices only organic and biodynamic viticultural techniques, to bring out the best of the fruits that they grow with so much care and compassion to the environment.
WINEMAKING: The Segna de Cor comprises 50% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 20% Syrah. The relation between the Grenache and the terroir of Roc des Anges gives fruity and fleshy grapes. To balance this generosity, they are blended with old Carignan (60-80 years old) and Syrah giving firm structure and dark colour and resulting in a tender and fruity wine sustained by a real texture of tannins. Mostly destemmed. Ambient yeast fermentation with pieds de cuve in closed concrete tanks for 7 days, then pressed and racked back to tank to finish fermentation. No temperature control. No punching down or pump overs. Aged in tank for approximately 10 months. No fining, light filtration. Total sulfur at bottling 30 to 50ppm. Held for several months in bottle before release.
TASTING NOTES: Soft, smooth, silky and smoky! Lively and fresh in the mouth, gentle flavours of red grape and berry, dried spices and roasted herbs. The Segna de Cor translates as the ‘blood of the heart’ and is almost exactly Roc des Anges spelled backwards.
