PRODUCER: The story of Peter Franus – the person, the winery, the wine – may just be the Great American Wine Fairy Tale. It includes a man searching for a path who could not ignore his calling. It includes hard-earned lessons from a rung-by-rung climb up the wine ladder, and graceful and delicious wine born of experience, tradition and intuition. And, of course, it includes romance. From the day they made their first wine in 1987, their goal has always been the same – to produce delicious and reasonably priced wines that distinguish themselves with their unique character, richness, harmony and the genuine sense of the mountain and hillside vineyards they came from.
WINEMAKING: Grapes were whole-clustered pressed, settled overnight and then racked to barrel. They have moved toward “native” or wild yeast fermentation which they have found results in wines that capture more of those elusive qualities found in the Chardonnays from Burgundy. Complexity is always their mission! The wine aged sur-lie for 10 months. refinement to the wine
TASTING NOTE: Displays a slight tinge of gold with mineral aromas. That wet-stone, gravel, non-fruity component, as well as apple, cardamom, vanilla, toasted hazelnut, basil, and a slight hint of orange peel. This is Chardonnay as it should be, not heavy, sweet, or ponderous, but lively and refreshing. A wine that dances on the palate!
