PRODUCER: In the late 1800’s, the majestic Long Meadow Ranch property thrived with vineyards, apple orchards, olive groves, hay and a goat milk dairy until farming fell dormant during Prohibition. Over the following years, the property became swallowed by the encroaching forest until the Halls bought the property in 1989. The Hall family carefully breathed life back into the land, nurturing it back to its glory, and then some, by cutting back the abandoned olive trees and replanting the vineyards and apple orchards as they grow today.
The LMR Mountain Estate was revitalized in 1989 according to the Hall family vision of crafting world-class wines using sustainable, organic farming practices. Today they grow 16 acres of vineyards in the Mayacamas Mountains to produce estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc.
Once a riverbed, the benchland Rutherford Estate has 74 acres planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The estate is also home to fruits and vegetables, beehives, and a growing flock of egg-laying chickens.
VINTAGE: The 2022 vintage is a tale of two harvests. With a five-day triple-digit heat wave in September followed quickly by heavy rain, the harvest of most red varieties was paused until the end of October while the white varieties were all in prior to the heat wave. After the rain, grapes were left to hang and enjoyed mild weather days that allowed winemakers to wait for perfect ripeness. The intermission that defines this harvest will showcase the full range of flavors that Napa Valley wines are known for from crisp, fresh, and vibrant to dense, structured, and powerful.
WINEMAKING: Winemaker and California native Justin Carr is behind the Napa Valley wines. The fruit for the Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc hails from from LMR's Rutherford estate and is matured entirely in stainless steel.
TATING NOTES: “A beautiful growing season produced another early and expeditious harvest of outstanding quality. Our overnight picks and slow cold fermentations resulted in rich aromas of pink grapefruit, lemon verbena, and lychee on the nose that carry through to lime zest, lemon curd, and guava on the palate. Crisp, clean, elegant, and mouth-watering, the always versatile Sauvignon Blanc is fit to quaff and pair.”
