PRODUCER: Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father Giacomo at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernist and traditionalists in Barolo was at its most acute. He decided to opt for a third approach, something we can call radical traditionalism. His wines were celebrated for being impressively approachable in youth while getting even better with age. Claudio represents the 5th generation of the Fenocchio family crafting elegant, true Barolos that capture the soul of his vineyards. Far from resting on his laurels though, he continues to push boundaries of quality and innovation while respecting his family legacy.
WINEMAKING: Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo comes from twenty-year-old vines planted in the Monteforte d'Alba region. The vines lie on sloping hills and are planted in clay-calcareous soils. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, traditional winemaking techniques are used to make Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo. Firstly, it ferments in stainless steel tanks for up to 40 days and then ages for 6 months in stainless steel and a further 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Finally, it is left to refine in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES: Deep ruby red in colour with lively, bright highlights this red wine has an intense, ethereal bouquet, with flavours of liquorice and wild rose alongside warm and spicy aromas.
