Fedellos do Couto Conasbrancas 2019
- Low stock - 5 items left
Conasbrancas is a field blend of local varieties from the same vineyards in the Bibei Valley (Ribera Sacra) that produce the red wine Lomba dos Ares. Red and white grapes grow together on this hillside, and the Fedellos spent several years rejuvenating the whites to ensure enough production for this blend. The vineyards are located on terraces along the steep slopes of the rivers Sil and Bibei at between 700 and 750 metres above sea level. Soils consist of decomposed granite, schist and sand. The climate is continental, although proximity to the Atlantic Ocean makes this area more humid and rainy than most of Spain, with around 800 mm each year.
The vines are between 60 to 80 years old. Viticulture is organic and the vines are untrained and worked manually.
WINEMAKING: The grapes, picked as a field blend, undergo maceration on skins for 28 days before fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. They are then aged in old barrels, mainly 500l demi-muids for 12 months on lees but without battonage, before being bottled unfined, unfiltered.
TASTING NOTES: Soft, dry, saline and tight. There's an earthy touch, a little spice with hints of pollen and beeswax. The palate has vibrant acidity and a long, mineral aftertaste. It improves and gets more focused in the glass, developing more floral aromas. Easygoing but not underpowered.
This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
