Domaine Lucien Muzard et Fils 1er Cru Santenay Gravieres Rouge 2019

PRODUCER: The name Muzard is linked to winemaking dating back to 1645, and was first seen on a deed of purchase of grapes from a Beaune winery. Right through his career, Lucien Muzard – Claude and Hervé’s father – bought land and planted vines with his wife Paule, thus offering his sons the possibility of carrying on working on the inherited legacy of old vines.
WINEMAKING: The grapes are never crushed, a major part of the grapes is destemmed and they keep around 30% as whole bunches. Alcohol fermentation is achieved with indigenous yeast. The wine is subjected to gentle cap-punching (or pigeage) during vat fermentation. After 18 to 20 days, we devat and blend free run wine with press wine for maturation in Burgundian oak barrels, 30% of which are new oak.
TASTING NOTES: A charming wine. A suitably intense palate for Burgundy, sweet fruit, and discrete, refined complexity. Good length to finish.
