Barco Cucu VdT Castilla y Leon
PRODUCER: Beatriz Herranz came across the vineyard while she was immersed in a project to recover old garnacha grapes in Cebreros, producing a wine called la Fábula. Having finished the project, she returned to La Seca (Valladolid) to the family vineyards, specifically to the eradicated vineyards of her grandfather, in order to begin this adventure with a small winery, dedicating herself, heart and soul to verdejo.
WINEMAKING: The verdejo is hand harvested by her friends, and pressed with an old grape grinder. The must is fermented directly in barrels (of second or third passage), and aged in the same place with autochthon yeasts, with a soft batonnage for all the ageing period. The annual production is around 5,000 bottles.
TASTING NOTES: Attractive and complex nose of white nectarine, grapefruit pith, lemon blossom and crab apple. Dry, softly textured, good palate weight, the flavor profile in a similar realm to the nose. Nevertheless, one of the best examples of verdejo out there.
