Alberto Nanclares Albarino 2020
PRODUCER: Alberto currently owns five hectares of vines in Salnes, all trained in the traditional Pergola style. He focuses on quality over quantity by choosing to keep yields low. This is one of his single vineyard wines, grapes are sourced from the south westerly exposed Manzaniña parcel in Meaño. Soils are decomposed granite with some clay, vines average 35 years old. Climate is Atlantic.
VITICULTURE: Vineyards are fully organic and he uses some biodynamic methods. Alberto uses seaweed from the nearby ocean for compost and does not plough to not disturb the surrounding flora and fauna.
WINEMAKING: Clusters selected by hand in the vineyards. Quickly transported to the winery in 15 kg crates. The grapes were not destemmed before going into a pneumatic press for a low pressure pressing. Fermented and raised in 3 steel vats, in 2 barrels of used French oak (2006) of 500 litres (Demptos) and 1 barrels of used French oak (2014) of 450 litres (Dammy) without clearing and breeding for 9 months.
TASTING NOTES: Intense straw yellow in colour with lots of lemon, honey and white flowers on the nose. On the palate it is very fresh and rich with a lemony citrus. An acid-driven, profound, and angular expression of Rías Baixas Albariño!
