Chris' picks for this weekend:
Two whites, one rosé and three reds, selected for everything from an easy lunch to the barbecue.
DOMAINE GAYDA FLYING SOLO WHITE
Fresh and rounded, with peach, pear and citrus fruit, a subtle floral note and a clean finish. Easy to drink on its own, with enough weight for grilled chicken, salads or creamy pasta.
RAFAEL CAMBRA SOPLO BLANCO
A characterful Valencian blend of Malvasía and Viura. Peach, citrus, flowers and gentle Mediterranean spice, balanced by plenty of freshness. Excellent with seafood, grilled fish, tapas or spiced chicken.
DOMAINE GAYDA LA MINUETTE ROSÉ
Pale, dry and elegant, with delicate red berry and citrus flavours, floral notes and a fresh mineral finish. A very good rosé for salads, seafood and Mediterranean food.
DON TINTO TEMPRANILLO
Smooth and generous, with ripe black cherry, raspberry and soft vanilla spice from partial ageing in oak. A straightforward crowd-pleaser for burgers, sausages, pizza or grilled meats.
VINOS INACAYAL LA CUEVA
A juicy Chilean blend of País and Carignan, packed with red and black berries, cracked pepper and gentle earthy spice. Fresh enough to serve slightly chilled and particularly good with barbecue chicken, pork or lamb.
KEN FORRESTER PAT'S GARDEN RESERVE
A Merlot-led Stellenbosch blend with ripe plum, black cherry and cassis, backed by wild herbs, cedar and spice. Smooth, fresh and the fullest red in the case. Bring this one out for steak, lamb or slow-cooked beef.
Cheers!
