Some of you may have heard us raving and preaching about Johan before, whether that was in the shop or at previous events - we really cannot get enough of his stuff.

Johan was recently named in the Top Ten of young Cape winemakers to watch and is one of South Africa’s most promising talents. His JH Signature Wines are made from selected grapes in the cooler regions of Elgin, Outeniqua and Elandskloof, where he is making terroir-focused Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in small batches, think Burgundian-esque style of wines. “I fell in love with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay while working in New Zealand and Santa Barbara. There’s great potential for both grapes in South Africa, and, as they are less widely planted, you have a chance to put your own stamp on the wines if you do a good job,” he says. He recently started bottling three single vineyard Pinot Noirs which he vinifies in the exact same way, so as to showcase the distinct expression of each site.

Stompie does not limit himself to just his Signature range and has thus created Mother Rock Wines in collaboration with Ben Henshaw (one of our UK importers). This range looks at natural wines (check out Will's article on them) which are full of raw power and texture.

Whilst Nude Food doesn't need an introduction, we are going to give you one anyway! Started in [2015] on New Street in St Helier and branching out to Union Street and La Haule over the past couple of years, Nude are going from strength to strength, literally (teaming up with Club Soulgenic with their Union Street café)!

But what does Nude have to do with Johan Meyer? Nude specialises in vegan food (#plantpower) but also offers a selection of carefully selected non-vegan offerings, focusing on healthy, sustainable living by not adding unnecessary ingredients like too much salt and sugar.

Like Nude, Meyer applies similar practices to his vine management and winemaking techniques; in the vineyard, Johan uses minimal intervention techniques and organic practices. Moving into the winery, he further promotes the rawness and natural elements of the wine by limiting the filtration and fining.

Combining a menu that speaks volumes about fresh, sustainably farmed ingredients with a producer that does the same works on so many levels.

What's on offer?

Nude's head chef Tony will be orchestrating the food on the evening to look like this:

First Course: Fresh Jersey scallops, cauliflower and turmeric with Chinese vegetables and rice crackers.

First Wine: Mother Rock Chenin Blanc

Second Course: Turbot with local vegetables, mint puree and lemon verbena sauce.

Second Wine: JH Meyer Signature Palmiet Chardonnay

Third Course: Pork loin with braised collar, orange and sweet potato, rainbow chard and, of course, crackling.

Third Wine: Mother Rock Red Blend

Fourth Course: Lamb loin with Jersey royals, asparagus and Jersey wild garlic.

Fourth Wine: JH Meyer Signature Palmiet Pinot Noir

Fifth Course: Fresh strawberries, Jersey cream with açai sorbet.

Fifth Wine: Mother Rock Rosé

We look forward to welcoming you to a 'naturally' fun night!
