PRODUCER: Lourens Family Wines is a small family owned wine business, which officially started in January 2016. They aim to produce honest wines that tell a story about where the grapes are from and the passionate farmers cultivating these specific sites and vineyards. They want to make wines that have personality and character but most importantly taste really good!
Their wine making philosophy is pretty simple and straight forward. They try to make wines with minimal interference in the winery and truly believe that their wines are predominantly made in the vineyards. They don’t add any yeast, acid; enzymes or fining agents and I only use old oak barrels and clay pots for maturation.
WINEMAKING: This is the maiden vintage of this wine. The grapes are from a Dryland bush vine vineyard in Piekenierskloof. Light extraction in the cellar. No yeast, acid or enzymes added. Wine matured for 9 month in old French barrels. Unfined and coarse filtration. 777 Bottles produced.
TASTING NOTES: The nose shows floral perfume before cherry and cranberry plus a little earthiness. The palate is generous without being too rich or heavy – good fruit expression, nice bright acidity and lightly grippy tannins.
